Arbor and Pergola Contractor Surrey
At Surrey Deck Builders, not only do we construct high end custom decks, but we also build many other landscaping structures as well. A great addition to a new deck could be an arbor or a pergola. They are quite unique and can definitely add some nice flair to your property. While the names are used fairly interchangeably, they are two distinct structures. We'll go over them below.
Pergola - Pergolas are usually the larger of the two as they are constructed to fit over decks and patios to form an enclosure of sorts. The materials used for a pergola are wood, metal, and vinyl. If you want to create a shaded area, you can include things like climbing plants, vines, or cover that are made of shades, linens, and bamboo. The unit itself is typically connected to another structure - like a garage, your house, or a shed- but they can also be built as a standalone piece as well. It will usually have 4 or more posts/columns that act as support for the structure. The roof section is designed with a crisscross pattern or made of beams and slats. If you wanted additional privacy, you can even add a lattice section to the side. Ultimately pergolas are constructed to create additional outdoor space. If you want to add areas for leisure, you can have stairs installed pre/post construction. Or add a little ambiance to your patio by having light fixtures installed on your pergola. Customization options are endless and you can create an outdoor space exactly to your liking. Arbor- Arbors are usually built smaller than pergolas and are more of a seating area for your garden or backyard. The construction process itself is fairly similar to a pergola but just smaller in nature. You can look at arbors as more of a doorway/entranceway while a pergola is mor of a living room for your yard. Arbors can be freestanding or attached to a fence for support. Something our clients love is to add a gate to your arbor to create a bit of a secluded area for some privacy. Just like with a pergola, you can add benches or seating areas for your arbor as well. A traditional arbor has a lattice design which allows for plants and vines to grow along the wall. Our team is experts when it comes to constructing customer arbors and pergolas. If you want an extra addition after your deck or just a stand alone solution, feel free to give us a call for a consultation on your project. |
