Composite Deck Contractor Surrey
If you are still in the research phase for your new deck, make sure to take a look at composite decking. Composite wood is a blend of wood and plastic and can be a great alternative to wood and vinyl decks. This material was introduced to the industry in the late 80's and have made significant strides since. We'll cover some of the differences between the different types of decks below.
Visual Appearance - The composite decks that came into the markets in the 80's and 90's did not have a great look and the durability on them was sub-par. But in recent times, manufactures have been able to closely mimic the look of real wood and greatly increase its durability. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between composite and natural wood at first glance. And while you won't ever get the exact look and feel of natural wood, composite has closed the gap significantly. Moisture - For any outdoor project, precipitation has to be taken into consideration here in BC. Decks that are made of composite and vinyl are a great for our climate as they are water resistant and waterproof respectively. Wood decks that have the proper maintenance work done can withstand water but there is always the risk of moisture causing damage in one form or another when you are working with natural wood. With a water resistant composite deck, you will rarely run into these types of issues. Maintenance - Composite decks require much less work in this department than compared to wood. Wood decks will need to be cleaned, stained, sealed, and even have oils applied. Composite on the other hand, will typically just require a quick clean to make it look like new again. If you are looking for a lower maintenance option, composite could be the option you are looking for. Price - The cost of composite decks are typically costlier upfront compared to other wood options. When you take maintenance costs and time into consideration though, that portion is usually paid off in about 5 years times. The price will ultimately depend on the grade of the material you choose so make sure you keep a close eye on that. Composite decking provides our clients with a high quality material that looks good and is fairly easy to maintain. There are many design options that are available to choose from and can be matched with any landscape. The water resistance it has is a big plus for BC and is another thing you don't have to worry about. If you want a solution that is a little more hands off, composite could be the perfect fit for you. |
